Microspheres can be used as individual cell culture units or assembled into porous scaffolds or simulated bionic microenvironments. They have been widely used in the fields of cell culture, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and so on. Compared to traditional cell culture methods, microspheres have a higher specific surface area, and multi-microsphere assembled scaffolds have interconnected porous structures, providing more space for cell proliferation and differentiation, so that the tissue microenvironment can be accurately mimicked. On the other hand, microspheres can be widely used as cell and drug delivery carriers and, based on their modifiable and injectable properties, can be used for minimally invasive treatment of irregular wounds.
Gelatin methacryloyl crosslinked microsphere from EFL team (EFL-MS-C-GM) is prepared by an optimised emulsion crosslinking technique and sieving. The microspheres retain the excellent biocompatibility and biological activity of GelMA. EFL-MS-C-GM achieve uniform particle size and multiple size options through strict preparation process control and quality testing, exhibiting excellent biocompatibility. GelMA microspheres can better simulate the tissue microenvironment and be applied to research fields such as cell 3D culture, drug delivery, and tissue engineering.
Dry kit:4℃, 18 months; -20℃, 24 months; -80℃,24 months. Sterile wet state: 4℃, 30 days.

EFL researchers used fluorescent GelMA crosslinked microspheres (EFL-FL-MS-C-GM series) as a model to investigate the swelling performance of GelMA cross-linked microspheres. As shown in Figure 2, the fluorescent GelMA crosslinked microspheres reached swelling equilibrium within 15 min when immersed in PBS (1x) solution at room temperature, which allows for rapid swelling of the microspheres and facilitates cell culture.

Two types of cells (C2C12, GFP-HUVEC) were inoculated onto fully swollen microspheres. After two days of incubation, both cells could adhere, stretch and grow on the surface of GelMA microspheres, indicating that GelMA microspheres have good biological properties.
